【Things You Are Excited About】supercell 2nd Single “Sayonara Memories” Details Revealed

This is a translation (and more) for the Oricon Style article that disclosed further details of the single.

Article title: supercell, a big favourite for 2010’s sakura/graduation song!

Article translation: Suddenly debuting at 4th in the charts with their first album “supercell” on March 1st, 2009, doing it again with their first single “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari” in August, and making it certain that they had made a vivid debut from the internet scene to the major commercial scene, supercell is a creator group headed by ryo. After “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari” first appeared on the charts at 5th, it had continued to be in the Top 20 for 6 weeks, and with long sales, it is now a hit with over 80,000 copies sold.

A 2nd single from supercell, to be released on Feb 10th and titled “Sayonara Memories”, has arrived. Along with composer ryo’s immensely heartrending lyrics and an impressionable melody, the vocals are will again be by nagi from the group’s previous work. ryo brilliantly shows his depiction of the anxious, bittersweet world view that is characteristic of adolescence. Also, the music video will be by MIKI Takahiro, who will make his debut in the coming spring as a film producer with the notable movie “SORANIN” (Starring MIYAZAKI Aoi), and will utilize a projector to feature fantasy-type content, making this a video a subject to be taken note of.

As the jacket and artist picture was illustrated by supercell member and noteworthy illustrator redjuice, the jacket has gathered as much attention as the music itself.

With “Sayonara Memories” having a big hold on being 2010’s huge sakura/graduation song favourite, the formerly internet-based, attention-garnering creator group supercell looks like they would again be of great acclaim in 2010.

Description: Although it’s to be released on February 10th, preorders for both the regular and limited editions of the single have already started at various online retailers such as amazon.co.jp and cdjapan. The regular edition is retailing at 1,233 Yen while the limited edition, which includes a Region 2 DVD with music video, is priced at 1,575 Yen (1,338Y at Amazon.co.jp). The CD’s tracklist, from amazon.co.jp, is as follows:

    1. さよならメモリーズ (Sayonara Memories/Farewell, Memories)
    2. 教えてあげる (Oshiete Ageru/I’ll tell you)
    3. 約束をしよう (Yakusoku wo Shiyou/Let’s Promise)
    4. さよならメモリーズ -Instrumental-
    5. 教えてあげる -Instrumental-

Further according to amazon.co.jp, the total time of the CD amounts to 25 minutes. In addition to having three wholly new songs on the single, the other noteworthy aspect of this would be redjuice’s illustrations, which were drawn in a style quite uncharacteristic of the illustrator’s regularly sleek, mechanical artwork. It’s surprising that a second illustration was drawn other than the jacket artwork, but what is even more interesting is that the second is being billed as an artist picture. What does that even mean? I’m guessing that it’s just a picture redjuice wanted to draw for the single on his own accord, maybe. Hopefully it’ll be used for a special limited edition add on, as the Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari single had an additional sticker with it. Furthermore, ryo wrote on the supercell member blog that there is more to the jacket illustration, and that the full version is even more stunning. Ideally the full, wider version will be released soon! I am also quite anxious to hear the demo tracks for the three new songs, and I’m personally happy that nagi is again providing the vocals for the single. Another notable thing is the curious, supposedly fantasy themed music video. I do hope that it will be more substantial than the “live action” Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari PV.

    Things I Am Excited About 【Fall 2009 M3(24)】

Click to go to the M3 Homepage.

M3 is a one-day, biannual, music-only convention held in Yokohama, Japan, and its name stands for “Music + Media-Mix Market”. It’s kind of like Tokyo’s Comiket but for doujin music artists only. The Fall M3 event for 2009 will be held on October 11th, and is the 24th iteration of the event. This post will briefly highlight only the circle releases I am watching for (22 releases in total are profiled here). Click on the banners for a link to the site, all of which include demos unless otherwise stated. Info is listed BELOW the banner.

Entries are loosely ordered by genre:
    1. Original, xx-based (ie. Story-based, Light Novel-based, etc)
    2. Original, Pop / Original, Pop-rock
    3. Original
    4. Touhou Arrange
    5. Cover
★★ entries are the ones I am most excited about.

Copy and paste the stars or genre titles into CTRL+F to find them.

I know the doujin music scene is a pretty uncommon/obscure subject in most anime-related blogs, but if you have an interest in finding out more and discovering new artists and such, M3 is seriously the best place to start foraying into this niche-ish sector. Hopefully this post will be helpful for doing that too.

A music version of Comiket? I’d hate to sound like a weeaboo or something but the Japanese have it all, no? OTL

    Things I Am Excited About 【August Ep1】

I know I just posted one of these but you know what, news are just waiting to be reported.  Shorter than usual since these are smallerish updates.

    • 君の知らない物語 (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari), the Bakemonogatari ED, has its full version leaked. On nicovideo it has received an overwhelming response, giving it the daily #4 ranking of all videos. I guess ryo and nagi are awesome like that.
    • 恋は戦争 (Koi wa Sensou), the popular song by ryo, is being remixed by notable composers like bakerm kz, and ゆうゆ (yuuyu), and being compiled into a CD as an omake for 三輪士郎 (Miwa Shirow)’s Comiket76 Vocaloid Visual Works release.
    • よっぺい (yoppei)’s new song is 七色のニコニコ動画 (Nanairo no Niconico Douga). It is #2 on the daily rankings, but I think Cagayake!GIRLS and Meltdown were better.
    • shu-tP‘s new song is a very good rock song featuring MEIKO as usual. (Nicovideo link)
    • REDALiCE‘s Comiket76 album will be a Touhou Project Arrange album. It has a song guest composed by kz and the album illustration was done by 晩杯あきら (Banpai Akira).

    Things I Am Excited About 【July Ep2】

It might not look like it, but this post took a very long time to compile because WordPress’s editor is clunky as hell. ARGH.

    • ざにお‘s (zanio, aka パイパンP) new gag(?) song, ボカラン詐欺 (Vocaloid Ranking Fraud), is very funny and addictive. リツカ (RITSUKA) even did a cover for it lolol.
    • OneRoom (aka ジミーサムP)’s first full Vocaloid album Toy Box, released on July 29th with cover art by ゆのみ (yunomi).
    • cosMo (aka 暴走P), is participating in DEBUTANTE 4 and changes name to Storyteller. His entry is titled ANTI THE∞HOLiC.
    • Persona 4 Vocal Selection in high quality with very accurate Japanese translation of the English lyrics.
    • 君の知らない物語 (Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari) finally gets an animated sequence as the ending theme of Bakemonogatari, and also has an official PV video preview up. I’m assuming the latter will be what’s on the limited First Press edition DVD of the single release.

    Things I Am Excited About 【July Ep1】

Series on post on random, possibly outdated stuff I care about. (ideally the items would be USUALLY new but you know what!!)

I can already imagine a delicious voice for this guy.

I can already imagine a delicious voice for this guy...

    • エナミカツミ (ENAMI KATSUMI), one of my absolute favourite character designer/artists ever, is doing the character designs and artwork for Ys 7!!! Words cannot express my joy, except it is a little dulled because I am unable to obtain a copy of the game. Anyways, this is incredibly old news but I accidentally reminded myself this month, so there you go. The game is being released on September 17th for the PSP.

    • 吉田明彦 (YOSHIDA Akihiko), the guy whose artwork drove me so insane it actually made me WANT to play Final Fantasy, is doing the character designs and artwork direction for the new DS FF spinoff, 光の四戦士-ファイナルファンタジー外伝 (Hikari no 4 Senshi – Final Fantasy Gaiden). I guess that another reason that the DS is awesome is because all its main-ish Final Fantasy games are powered by Yoshida Akihiko.

    • The sample for the second vocal track in supercell (x nagi)’s 君の知らない物語 single has been released! It’s called LOVE & ROLL, and is CENCOROLL‘s theme song, and the vocals are again by nagi. Really upbeat (mmmm bass), and quite a lot of random English! A pretty awesome departure from ryo’s usual style, and I look foward to the full version.

    • Finally stalked Mitsuda Yasunori (Not adding kanji because we all know him I guess?!) again last night to find out that the vocal arrange of his famous Chrono Trigger overworld theme, 風の憧憬 (Yearnings of the Wind) has its sample up! It is sung by 清水翔太 (SHIMIZU Shota) and will be retitled as 風のように (Like the Wind). Hope more of his works become even more known to the world! It’s so awesome.

    • Dixie Flatline, the Vocaloid composer of Juvenile and and Gemini fame has uploaded a new song titled Just Be Friends (Nicovideo link) featuring Megurine Luka for vocals and ゆのみ (yunomi, of magnet fame) for artwork/PV! Not only is it incredibly loopable, but it is also (deservedly) dominating the nicovideo rankings. Also that PV is so cute. Reminds me of Honey and Clover for some reason! That is a good thing I believe.
