Translation

In the neighbourhood after 6:30 is
a darkened street leading home.
The quickly falling rain was
relected by the car’s headlights.

If I had taken off my headphones, the sound of falling rain would
give off a heartrending sort of feel.

A sky who’s being a bigger crybaby than usual.
Not carrying an umbrella, I’m just like a song being hummed
where someone adds in a different note out of a whim. That’s what it feels like to me.

A sky who’s being a bigger crybaby than ever.
That’s the reason why I’m singing a song.
Please don’t be so sad, I’ll cheer you up later.

A sky who’s being a bigger crybaby than usual.
Without carrying an umbrella, I’m just like a song being hummed where someone adds in a different note out of a whim. That’s what it feels like to me.

A sky who’s being a bigger crybaby than ever.
You’re the reason why I’m singing a song.
Please don’t be so sad, I’ll cheer you up later.

Translation Notes:
1 – “…the car’s headlights”: Literal translation is “turn signal”, but that seemed cumbersome, and had essentially the same meaning as “headlights” in this case.
2 – “…my headphones”: Literal translation is “earphones”, specifically meaning “earbud headphones”, but “earphones” are relatively uncommonly used so I interchanged it with “headphones”.
3 – “…adds in a different note”: Literal translation is “spews out a complete miss of a note”. Seemed pretty vulgar, and I didn’t know if it was good to change the whole feeling of the song.
4 – “You’re the reason…”: Referring to the sky. Used “You” instead of “That” since the sky seemed quite personified in this song.
5 – “I’ll cheer you up later”: Literal translation is “I’ll shine on you later”.
